In the book, Murray Hudson and Terry White make the case for understanding how teaching and learning should happen first, then designing the building around it. This approach puts the classroom experience ahead of the construction process, so schools will have spaces built for how children actually learn rather than spaces that pupils and teachers have to adapt around.

Schools across the UK are under pressure to add or replace space quickly, often due to structural issues, rising pupil numbers, or ageing buildings that are no longer fit to operate. Seeing It in Practice
We’ve put this into practice at Hazlewood Primary School in North Tyneside. Working with North Tyneside Council and the Department for Education, we supplied and installed a two-storey modular building with 8 classrooms, 4 offices, a staff room, and restrooms, giving the school temporary space while structural repairs were carried out. Our team took the project from groundworks to completion in 6 weeks.
