A Flexible Modular Data Centre Concept Built for Modern Technical and Operational Needs

The challenge

Maxi Space developed a modular data centre proposal designed to meet the technical, environmental, and operational needs of a modern facility. The brief required a layout capable of supporting critical IT infrastructure, staff workspaces, and specialist equipment, while taking advantage of the flexibility offered by modular construction. Two alternative building arrangements were created to demonstrate different configurations of server capacity, cooling systems, UPS rooms, and supporting areas.

The solution

Two modular data centre options were produced, which both demonstrated different building scales and internal configurations. Both layouts were designed to support the core functions of a modern data centre, including server rooms, cold-aisle arrangements, cooling systems, UPS provision and staff facilities.

Option 1

A compact layout that fits all essential technical spaces without wasting floor area. This arrangement includes server aisles, UPS rooms, CRAC cooling units, switchgear areas and office space, along with integrated fire-suppression zones. It offers a streamlined solution suited to sites requiring a smaller or more contained operational setup.

Option 2

A larger multi-bay configuration designed to increase capacity and provide additional support areas. This option includes multiple server areas, reception, breakout space, storage, and staff facilities. The extended layout allows for greater equipment volumes and clearer separation of technical and non-technical functions.

Delivery & Install

Maxi Space structured the building layouts to support an organised installation process, ensuring that technical rooms, cooling zones and supporting areas could be positioned and integrated efficiently on site. The project information supports the delivery and placement of the modules so the building can be installed and commissioned effectively on site.
