Temporary educational space delivered within 2 weeks for uninterrupted learning

The challenge
Midfield Primary School required temporary classroom accommodation while extension and remodelling works were undertaken to the main school building. The project needed to provide four temporary classrooms with associated toilets and storage for the duration of the construction works.
The programme was fixed around the school calendar, with the temporary buildings required to be installed and handed over before the end of August 2025, so they could be occupied from the start of the new term in September 2025. The accommodation also needed to integrate with existing site layouts and services and comply with building control requirements within a limited installation period.
The solution
Maxi Space supplied four temporary classrooms at Midfield Primary School, designed to support the school during extension and remodelling works to the main building. The accommodation was configured around a central lobby, with integrated toilets and storage areas to support daily use.
The classroom layout was produced following consultation with the school. Instead of a standard double‑classroom arrangement, the final design positioned the classrooms and facilities to improve access and circulation within the building.
The solution included:
- 4 temporary classrooms
- Integrated toilets and storage areas
- A central lobby layout to improve access and flow
- Groundworks, including steps and ramps
- Full electrical and foul water service connections
The orientation of the buildings on site was adjusted to increase playground space and create a parent pick‑up location, while maintaining access to the existing school for daily use. Tree canopy surrounding the playground was also reduced to improve light into the classrooms and external areas. The buildings were provided on an 11‑month hire term and designed to act as temporary learning spaces until the main school works were complete, after which removal and reinstatement works are planned.
Delivery & Install
Detailed design and building control approval were progressed in June 2025, with the manufacturing of modular units running alongside site preparation works.
On‑site construction commenced on 21 July 2025 and was completed by 22 August 2025, with the temporary classrooms handed over in time for occupation at the start of the September 2025 term.
The installation included four temporary classrooms totalling approximately 270 sqm, along with groundworks, steps, ramps and service connections. Electrical power was provided via a 100‑metre cable run, and connecting the waste water required the installation of a pumping station. Fire and security alarms were coordinated with the school’s existing suppliers to satisfy building control sign‑off. At handover, Maxi Space assisted with moving furniture and equipment into the classrooms and continued to provide product support and routine maintenance for the duration of the hire.
Testimonials
“Maxi Space were excellent; they delivered exactly what we asked for. We had a very short time span for this project due to the circumstances we found ourselves in. Maxi Space supported us at every level, fast-tracking the design process, initiating manufacturing during the planning process and working through the night at times to ensure that the building was completed in time.”
